Saruth M1T Titanium Coating **5 available for immediate delivery**

Finally, it's now a go. Just yesterday, I thought I might have to get it done by lathe because no CNC shop is willing to accept small orders. Today, after relentless search, I managed to find a CNC shop who is willing to do small run meaning 40 pcs minimum. I'm sorry that I said 30 pcs on my last post. If you want to change serial number, please let me know. I know people interested will not reach that number, but I'm willing to keep the rest as stock or for future stragglers. As for McClickies, machine shop have finished redesigning the tail piece, but I have to rush it to CNC without taken pictures. Not to worry, I'll ask CNC shop to mail me pictures later on.

Due to higher cost of McClickies and rubber booths, may I ask for $8.00 price increase to cover additional costs.

Revised pricing as follow.
TiN and TiAln = $165.00 shipping included
Stainless steel = $155.00 shipping included.

Please Paypal to nongvol1(at)asianet.co.th

Production will start on July 24. Estimated shipping date in mid August.

I will require 50% deposit ($82.00) before July 19. For those on the list, please have money ready. I'll ask for the rest once I have all the lights in my hands and ready to ship.

Update: June 26, 2006

SaruthM1Truntime.jpg

I've added runtime chart and beam shot as requested. For runtime test I used Shan R123 unprotected 650mAh battery. Starting V measured 4.127V and at the end of the test measured 3.305V. Current draw (measured at tail cap) 1084 mAh at the start, but I didn't measure the ending. Light engine consist of DB917 and UX1J star.

Light stay in regulation for 35 minutes and started to drop at 40 minutes mark. I let it run for another 10 minutes and decided to terminate the run frightened that battery voltage would drop below 3V. However, measuring battery voltage in the end shows 3.3V remains.

The body temperature is warm to the touch but not scorching hot. I'm sorry I don't have thermometer to measure the temperature but I can assured you that it's not uncomfortably hot. Test is conducted in the room where ambient temperature around 85 degree F with no fan cooling assisted.

Saruth M1T on the left with perfect hot spot as you normally get from McR27 and on the right is IMS27.

Hello Everyone,

May I introduce "Saruth M1T", my first attempt to build complete light from the ground up. If you are new to this, this is how it got started. The objective of Saruth M1T is a small throw light and run on single R123. Distinctive feature is the titanium coating which gives Saruth M1T very unique colors. Titanium coating is much more durable than HAIII. I'm not an expert in material science, but I do know it will last a very long time with normal usage.

Aside from TiN and TiAlN coating, the body section where light engine sits has finned design to help dissipate heat and keep lights running cool. This light has one drawback is its weight. Being made from stainless steel, it is quite heavy.

Color : TiN (Yellow-Gold) and TiAlN (Purple-Grey)
Material : Stainless Steel
Coating : Titanium Nitride (TiN) or Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN)
Lux star : U_ _J or U_ _K (Depending on availability)
Driver : DB917 (Also fits QIII size FluPIC)
Reflector : McR27
Lens : Schott Superwite 2mm thick
Switch : McClickie
Serialize : Laser etched (example 01/40 – 40/40)
Weight : 266g (complete light with battery)

Price : $165.00 Ship to any where in the world.

This is one time run project. I'm wondering if there is enough interest to go ahead with the project. I need to have at least 100 units as require by CNC shop. I know this seems ridiculously large quantity, but that's what I have to work with. If you are interested, please state what king of coating you want together with serial number you like (from 002 - 100). I'll let this run for two-three weeks. By then, if the target of 100 is not met, I'll have to scrap the project. Thank you everyone for showing interest.

Cheers,

cool.... but does it have any heat sinking abilities? I'd hope the base of which the star sits on is copper or something?

Interesting. Two concerns -- the weight and output.

I'm attracted to fine craftsmanship, but exclusivity doesn't attract me, per se. For me, function is paramount. So an otherwise fine light that has a mediocre output isn't appealing to me (no Ferraris with VW motors).

Why not make this light from Aluminum? :huh2:

This is prototype heatsink. Yes, star sits on flat top aluminum heatsink with threaded body. This design provides two paths for heat to flow to light body.. First, by way of thread around HS to the body. Second, is from the base of HS to the body. So, I think we should be safe on thermo meltdown :)

I agree with you 100%. I tried TiN with aluminum, which didn't work well. Color is dull gold and TiN coating could easily be removed with knife. TiN doesn't stick to aluminum.
