I've been thinking about this off & on for months now...so my question is, what alternate names are you aware of for a telephone, or for making/receiving a call on one?

Mine are:

Telephone:
Phone
Horn
Blower

Making/receiving a call:
Get on the blower
Give me a shout
Give me a jingle
Give me a holler
Get on the horn / I have to get off the horn

Wellll.

In the middle of the night, it's called "that damn phone!"

Then there's squawk box, teenager pacifier and ding-a-ling.

At one time they were referred to as "stations". The opposite of a person-to-person call was station-to-station. Don't remember person to person? That was a call where you did not have to pay if the person you wanted to talk to was not there. When I was a telephone operator I had more than one call to "Gothome Safely", a person who was never there.

I know there are more telephone names.

"come give daddy a tinkle"

Well... there's a certain phone at work that we refer to as "The Batphone".
It's the phone that connects us to the dutch emergency network. Hopefully we never have to use it, because if we do, it would mean that the poop has really hit the fan...

I think we've had a Batphone of one kind or another at every job I've had since I got into IT 15+ years ago. And invariably we hated when it rang or when it had to be used.

Synonyms for phone I use:
cell
mobile (only when talking to my European counterparts)
cellphone
landline

Synonyms for calling, as in "give me a...":
call
shout
ring
beep me (on the Nextel)
track me down on the cell
