.

I want to cracking it or open it is cause to solve that problem and also want to know any rooms for me to do the mod.

My mod will be change all the LED to UV LED and put 1~3 SMD white LED inside the head to keep it have white light out coming, or even make a small circuit to do switching between the UV and the SMD LED.

Can you say, \"Durian\"?
My machine shop guy looked at my older X5 and instantly pronounced it as a press-fit assembly. It appears to be a one-time, non-reversible job and put together with a dedicated/specialised jig. Seems the only way to get it out is to push it from LED holes, which of course would destroy the light.

The Inovas are indeed tough nuts to crack!

the old X5 head might be "forced open" by using two pipe wrenches with that grippy rubber tape that self-tightens as you crank. they sell something similar to open jars too; kinda looks like an oil filter wrench, but the belt is rubber/fiber material, strong and grippy.

one wrench on the thread side, and one on the side near the leds, and start counter twisting. it's probably glued/sealed and will be a pain to undo, and good luck putting it back on.

i think Sears sells the type of wrench i'm thinking of; perhaps one of those "seen on tv" stores too; perhaps brookstone?

leddite:

Sears sells strap wrenches (that's what you're looking for) but getting one on the head will be a pain. You need a good area to grab it and there's only about an 1/8" to grap on the Inova. See if you can find a collet and block set that size and use it. It will grip better and I think you will have better luck getting the head off.

I use my lathe with a 6 jaw chuck to grab stuff I need to get apart like that. Works well.

I haven't tried it on a light but I pull apart stuff all day long at the shop here. Heat it and keep it warm for a few minutes then try to twist/pull/pry it off.

sorry.
