I know I ask newbish questions, but stay w/ me here...

Why would people pay more to buy whats all the same?
take G2 for example... P60 lamp...2 lithiums 65 lumens [$36]

6P P60 lamp, two lithiums 65 lumens [$60]
C2 centurion, P60 lamp, two lithiums 65 lumens [$105]
M2 centurion, P60 lamp, two lithiums 65 lumens [$168]
...

Why pay so much for a light when you can get the same performance at lesser cost?

Friggin' MORE COWBELL!!!
G2 - Nitrolon body
6P - metal body, type II anodized (mine is, anyway)
M2 - shock isolated bezel, hard annodized

...they're not the "same"

The beam should theoretically be the same. But the body of the light isn't.

Remembering also that the M2 comes with the P61 High Output Lamp Assembly as well as the standard P60.

I guess that the costs of each product also take into account the volume of each product SureFire manufacture and sell.

*Performance* is the word here. Light output is not everything. How does the light perform under water? When a car runs over it? When it is attached to a shotgun? Otherwise, even a G2 would be a waste of money. You could just take a P60, a piece of wire, 2 lithium cells and some tape: Voilà!

The 6P, C2, and M2 also have a pyrex lens instead of a lexan lens.

Application factor is also an issue, kind of hard on the fingers and tiring to hold a G2/6P/U2 in a surefire rogers grip. I prefer a G2Z for a handgun light.

Yeppo. Above posts are correct. For instance, a C3 and a 9P. Both use the P90. But the C3 has a clip, rubber grip ring, and type III anodizing. 9P has none of this. C3 wins. Of course the 9P is still a great light and pretty affordable at that. (compared to other 3 cell SureFires)

The lights above the G2 now generally come with a pyrex lens which transmits a little more light as well and the 6P also has a clicky switch.

Really? When did SF start supplying the 6P with a clickie? Mine came with a twistie, and I had to buy a Z59 separately.

I don't know. I think it's been a little while now.

I've only had mine a few months, mines got a twisty, the Z41.

from the SF website:

"
  • Tailcap switch: press for momentary-on, twist for constant-on"
