It's one of the dirty little secrets about custom built lights. Ya just can't get windows for "custom" lights for a reasonable price.

Stick with popular, mass produced sizes and you are OK.

There are some reflectors marketed to rave reviews that ya can't get windows for. Try the McR-38, for example.

I have some luck with camera filter lenses, but guessing the correct size is fun.

I dont know how well this would work but it might be worth some experimentation.

Go to your local frame shop and see if they stock museum glass it has an AR coating and UV filtering and by some quick recerch boasts 97% light transmission, I assume they mean visable light, and the shop should be able to cut the circle to any size you want. I dont know what it will cost or how well it will hold up to being a flashlight though hence the experimentation but I bet it will cost lesss then buying a hundered.
