Excellence movie by the way, I recommend it.

how much historical is this movie, or is it all just bs?

they end the movie with histories of the characters, such as when some of the died. is this all made up or based on true events?

Highly recommend this movie if you like quality westerns.

I think it is VERY loosely based on reality.... The characters were not real, but something sort of like that happened somewhere around that time??? I heard an interview with Robert Duvall about it a week or so ago, but didn't play THAT close attention to it to say for certain..

It was a good movie; beautiful scenery, interesting story line, but it 'weren't no Lonesome Dove'.... In fact I think I liked Open Range a little better in some respects.

Kinda off topic, but I wondered why the movie was so HEAVILY advertized.

It dawned on me that the movie was probably in the can when Brokeback Mountain came out.

The people that produced the movie were probably concerned that the public would confuse the two, and not watch it.

Don't need two of that genre in a year.

Broken Trail gets my vote also, excellent movie for a western. My first love is and always has been quality Sci Fi, but I would not hesitate to give B T the thumbs up.
