Your experiences w/ L2 regulation

My understanding was that the regulation on the L2 was not as flat as the L4, but I was outside tonight, when all of a sudden the L2 dropped to the low setting. I thought it was supposed to drop steadily, right? I sold my first L2 (old style) and missed it so much I bought another (new style). Are there any differences in the regulation, because I never saw my old one do that? I'm not complaining, if the regulation on the L2 is really that flat, I'm stoked. For the other L2 owners out there, what are your runtime experiences on primaries or rechargeables?
