Just got an L5 from Midway. The bezel is squared off at the rear, not angled like the 2005 catalog photo. It looks almost the same as the 2006 photo, but the body just in front of the clip is straight and remains 1.25 inch rather than angling to meet the bezel. KL-5 s/n A0022x, and L5 body s/n A6197x. The instructional insert was dated 7-1-2003. No mention of a lanyard on the outside of the box and none inside, although the catalog implies one should be included.
Using the supplied 2 Surefire cells (lot 10-2014) tailcap current of the Surefire L5 was about 1.16 amp. Moving the KL5 head to a WG9D 3 cell body yielded a current draw of around 0.70 amps. The same 3 cells provided 1.18 amps using a P90 as a control. ETA: On a SINGLE cell tailcap current was 0.27 amps, and light output was still substantial!
So this is the buck/boost version? The lower current draw with 3 cells is a GOOD thing, yes? Maybe get 2 hours runtime at full brightness? Can't wait till dark...

ETA: I took KL-3 data for a ribbed Gen I s/n A0155x. With 2 cells tailcap current was 0.31 amps, and as I normally use it on a 3 cell Defender D3 body 0.22 amps.
