What's your favorite light...and WHY!?

There's been a LOT of threads over the years dealing with "favorites", but more times than not, they get tuned into a "What, only one!?", or give responses that list "1 thru 5" or "1 thru 10" of favorite lights. Well guys, in this thread, please list your ONE favorite light...and then tell WHY it's your favorite. Your reasons can be based on anything from brand loyalty to WHATEVER...but please name just one...

My favorite is Waion's Triton P1 w/TXOJ! I think this particular light hasn't gotten it's fair share of "hype"! First of all, I LOVE the 1XAA form factor, so the P1 really fits the bill. Also, the HAIII on the Triton P1 is FAR superior to the HAIII on the Fenix L1P/L1T series. Second, I HATE reverse clickies, and the Triton P1 has a "true" momentary/constant on clicky. Third, I must admit that I AM a "white-wall hunter", and the Triton P1's LOP reflector gives an absolutely flawless beam...among the best of any of my lights! 99% of the lights I own get used for close to medium range tasks, and the Triron P1's wide hot-spot and bright side spill make it perfect for this type of use. Last of all, I'm really starting to become a BIG fan of LIon cells, and the Triton P1 seems to have been made with 14500 LIon cells in mind. I find myself reaching for this light for almost all of my light needs! It gives "guilt-free" lumens and a flawless beam in my favorite form-factor, and is covered in some of the best HAIII I've seen...for NOW, it's my hands-down favorite light!

What's yours...and WHY!? It doesn't have to be your "best" or your most expensive; just your favorite! I think we ALL have a "favorite"...it may change weekly, or even DAILY; but for NOW, what is it?

My favorite light? ...
The one that works when I need it to. I don't care if it's a 2D 99¢ Eveready, if it is there when I need it and it works, then it is my favorite du jour.

Though for many years, a Stinger holstered on a belt served that purpose quite faithfully.

Hello PJD:)

My favorite light is my "Tricarus" made by the member Icarus.

It's a Trilux Magmod with a perfect building quality and great parts.:)

I love the output by a perfect beam with throw and sidespill, 2 brightness levels, the power supply by 7xAA nimh cells so free Lumens, superb runtime and....... the whole light.

I'm anxious for my Trilux Aleph3, I should get it in a short time:grin2:.

Perhaps then will my favorite change?:sssh:

Best regards

Probably a Civictor. 1AA form factor (smaller than L1P), L1P equivalent output, GOOD run time (where Tritons, Ultrafire 602As, etc. fall short of Fenixes), extra reliability of the CMG style bezel twisty, takes a CMG clip nicely for bezel down carry with no rubbing when you change batteries, cheaper...

Mines is my HID AE24w. Its 1300 lumens, comes with a case with plenty of accesories, 2 hour runtime, etc. Nice light when you really want to light things up without worrying about runtime. And it has a great regulation( near the end of the battery it will still be as bright as it was fully charged):grin2:

I'm sure no one will be surprised, but my Surefire A2 has to be my favorite light.

Many reasons, in no particular order:

1) Two stage - I'm a big fan of multiple light levels in one package, as one level of light may be perfect for one task and too much/little for another. The 3/50 lumen light levels are great for just about every task I am confronted with, and like a Swiss Army Knife, if they aren't "perfect" for the task I can get through it without having to look for another light.

Another factor of the two-stage is that it has to be easy to select the output desired, instantly, unfailingly, and WITH ONE HAND. I have many lights that are fantasic but take two hands to operate (main reason I still do not own an M6). The A2's switch is ergonomic, comfortable, and completely painless to operate. It doesn't require a manual to operate (main reason I do not own an HDS) and is very durable, easy to use (just push) and doesn't require much maintenance.

2) Output - A2 is very bright. Surefire rates the incan at 50 lumens, I believe it is more. However, I don't own an ILS so I can't tell you for sure. It is easily capable of lighting the stop sign two blocks down from my house, showing me the top of the 60' tree in my yard, etc..... the throw is excellent, combined with a flawless beam that SF managed to get despite 3 holes in the reflector and a bulb that is less than a whisker from the glass lens.

LEDs output is just right for walking through the house at night. I especially appreciate the Yellow/Green color because it does not wake up my 9mo old daughter when I check on her at night. A blessing in disguise, it truly is......

3) Regulated incan. Only current production light with this available. It is incredible how annoying it can get using a Maglite or other non-regulated incan nowadays. Even my non-regulated SF's get less use than the A2. I understand that LEDs are regulated also, but I prefer the warmer colors of an incan. Its also peace of mind for my wallet: when I change batteries, its because I need to, not because the beam is so weak that I finally give in and feed another 2 bucks into the aluminum hole....

4) Type III anodizing. Very durable, long lasting and looks good to boot. I USE my A2 (I inspect power plants for a living) and it has taken a beating. I am not worried about it, however, because it still looks great. I do have to make sure it rides alone though, because it will wear on my other lights :)

5) Looks - the A2 is a great looking light, the perfect size for my hand, and just feels GOOD when I hold it. The clip is a great functional accessory, and 90% of the time at work I use the lanyard for quick access. It is light (4oz) and doesn't get in the way of anything. It is also very TOUGH and feels solid in the hand.

There are other reasons I'm sure but those are the main ones. I'll never be without my SF A2 again....

McLux Pr with WXOT

reasons for liking it

a) designed by McGizmo
b) i can upgrade the LED when a better one comes out
c) runs in regulation
d) runs on rechargeables
e) i put it together myself so it was cool to assemble your own light
f) its brighter than my KL4
g) its on a surefire e2e body so its really small
h) it looks like it could have been made from surefire
i) its just plain fun :) and that is the best reason for me

I don't have many lights, but my current favorite is my Surefire G2. My most expensive light. You can tell by that that I haven't been a flashaholic for long!

After reading this forum extensively I find myself wishing that the Surefire A2 cost about half what it does. :(

I guess it would have to be my 3[M]iniMag since this is the one I reach for all the time. EDC'able enough to just drop into my pocket, bright white light from this little torcher. Ease of use and I must admit quite "ruggedly durable" since acquiring it.

My favourite is the HDS U60.

Reasons why...:naughty:
1) 4 programmable brightness levels with selectable starting brightness
2) Single CR123 and can accept rechargeables
3) Bright 60 lumens
4) Small but not too small that I can't get a good grip on it
5) fits a beamshaper for soft flood, especially on low for reading
6) great runtime and fully regulated
7) Great beam with a nicely wide hot spot
8) I love the feel of the switch

Perhaps, if I had $100+ flashlights, my opinion would be different, but being a flashaholic with other (damn expensive) hobbies, in the "bang for the buck" price range and I'm sure that it comes as no surprise to many as I post about it often is the Gerber LX3.0 because it's effectively bright and very versitile. More a "generalist" than "specialist", there are flashlights that will out throw the LX3 or flood an area more evenly but the LX3 has enough power and versatility to do many things well.

Well, my favorite 5 are... hehe just kidding.

My favorite has GOT to be the Fenix P1. It is definately number 1 on my list, and is with me 24/7. It has the throw and flood that I need for anything, even going outside at night trying to kill that damned skunk stinking up my AC units. (I'll get you my pretty... eventually...)

In addition, it's at a price that can't be beat, and it's simplicity works wonders. And, of course, 4sevens shipped it fast as can be.

My current favorite (likely to change at any given moment) is my newest. Its a E2D body with a z61 tailcap (black HA z61) and an Aleph 1 head hosting a UX1K Flupic. Runs on a protected AW 17670.

Why: Multi mode, 3 user adjustable brightnesses, extreme runtime, good throw, bright corona. Whats not to like about it!

(2) 123 side by side design = very extended runtime.
(6) low to high (1000ma) settings with a rotary switch that is the "best" that I have used.
Excellent finishing and workmanship
McGizmo reflector and very good LED tint
Tritiums on top for easy locate at night
Small size for a 2 cell light.

What BE said.

Personal fave: SL PP Lux AA

1.) Uses extremely common AA's
2.) Uses rechargeables, lithiums, alkalines, whatever
3.) Waterproof
4.) Produces plenty of light for over 4 hours on 2400 mah NIMH
5.) Small enough to be pocketable(for me anyway, in work pants)
6.) Tailcap clickie
7.) Plenty of throw in a pocket size, while retaining enough spill to be well useable up close
8.) LED, no bulb to burn out
9.) Indestructable by any reasonable use for a flashlight
10.) Cheap enough that should an unreasonable use destroy the light, it's not a huge loss
11.) Regulated
12.) Still provides useable light after it falls out of regulation
13.) "Dead" primaries still provide several hours of good service in a Nite-Ize modded MiniMag

Cheers. :buddies:
