I've got a number of units that have built in S.O.S(INOVA 24/7 etc), I've noticed that they flash it widely verying speeds. Is'nt there a requirement that any unit that will flash S.O.S must do it at a certain speed?

The (no longer manufactured?) SOS model of the Safe-Light Super-Bright complies with 46CFR161.013-7 as well.

If I noticed an S.O.S. signal anywhere and the light/signal didn't meet those published specs - I would just have to move right on and forget about those who were signaling - NOT!!

Let's see, if they used a mixture of upper case & lower case letters on the beach...:ohgeez: :D

Seriously though, standards need to be defined somewhere and it seems the the ole' Code of Federal Regulations covers EVERYTHING, eh?!!

Thanks clipse for that definitive answer!!
