Picked up an Eddie Bauer NANO E-LIGHT while in the camping section of Target tonight. When I first turned it on, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I guess I must have had a confused look.

Anyways, this thing makes my Solitaire look like an M6 in comparison. It will be going back to Target tomorrow. The only thing it really has going for it, is that it does look cool.

Beamshots below:

Here's the Eddie Bauer V2 Nano E-Light at about 6 inches from the wall.

Here's another shot at about 1 foot. Yes, that batwing is the pathetic beam profile.

Here's a shot of my 3 year old Photon II with more than half dead batteries at about 2 feet.

Here's a shot of the light, see it does look cool, doesn't it?? Too bad it's worthless. It looks like the bezel is pressure fit to the body, since it doesn't unscrew. Maybe could be freeze popped.

Here's a picture of the front of the package, so you know what to avoid.

Here's a shot with the light apart, battery laying out.

It's a 3V lithium battery. It's a BR 435 according to the package. Nice strong smell of hydrogen when you open the light. Made me cough when I stuck my nose up to the light.

Anyways, I recommend you all avoid this joke of a light.

In my pencil jar is a little cool looking Coast light that uses that same battery. About 1/4" dia. and 3 1/2" long, it works as good as it looks. Thing is I've never seen that battery for sale anywhere. O.K. it's been a year since I've looked, but anyway, all I could find was some reference number but no one had any for sale. Was just kind of facinated by such an odd looking battery.

Too bad about that piece of junk you got. With decent leds so cheap now, there's no excuse for something like that.

You probably have to order the replacement battery from them. (shrugs)

The Eddie bauer is just a rebadged LED lenser. From what I've read, they're more concerned with making good looking torches than ones that work well. Their newer torches are supposed to be better though but still no match for the competition.

I was really hoping for at least the brightness of my three year old Photon II. It would have either gone on this keychain as a backup or on another keychain. Boy was I surprised at the crappyness. I'm not even joking, this thing is totally worthless. I think the top pic was probably more like 3-4 inches from the wall, anything, so that I could get my camera to actually capture the beam in a totally dark room.

It's true there aren't many good european flashlight manufacturers. At least not that I can think of. They seem to be more specialised making LED dive torches and bike lights.

Hey, I think I'll start up a new thread about this.

I bought a similiar light a few weeks ago. It was a re-badged "Outdoor Life" brand that's available at K-Mart but I got this one at Big Lots. It was in a two-pack with a goose-neck light that works pretty well and the combo was $5. This small one though is extremely weak. You could find the keyhole with it, if you ever made your way to the door itself. Mine's an amber color, it brought to mind what radioactive apple juice would look like. I think it would be more use as a stealthy marker rather than as a light. I haven't ever seen these batteries either but I didn't plan on replacing this one when it gives out.

I recieved the exact red Eddie Bauer light in 2001 from a friend, before I even like lights. It went on my keychain and it's been there since. I'm waiting to find a red squeeze light or Photon to replace it. It's size is about the only thing going for it, and keeping it on the keychain.
