What work does the stock cradle require for an MC85?

I've been thinking about building an MC85 due to having a bunch of old Magchargers sitting around. My only requirement is that it work with the original cradle--new charger is OK, just want to keep the cradle. Does it need anything at all, or does the SCR need replacing, or should it just be gutted and wired directly?

I have a MC85 that Ginseng built. The charging cradle doesn't change, but he used a larger wall wart: 830AS15070 (120AC in at 60 hz; output 15.0VDC with 700mA current) The website is www.TamuraGroup.com

It's still a farily long charge. I'm using 8 4000mAh NiMH high-current cells, which means it needs a tube extender, making it close to a 5D in size.

I don't know if he did any internal mods, but I don't have that impression. The charging light doesn't work anymore, probably because the stock charger put out just 220 mA at 14 volts.

I would think that you could also wire the stock cradle to the Universal Smart Charger and get a better, faster charge.
