What a place. Apliu Street, SSP MTR. (Actually in Kowloon, across the water)

Literally hundred stalls, most selling led torches, charger, batteries etc.

Most impressive at night.

However, most stalls selling old multi led torches.

A few selling "Luxeon" clones.

No Fenix's.

My particular favourites, AA cell Ultrafires were around.

Also lots of CR123 torches, mostly Ultrafires, batteries and chargers.

I bought a couple of UF 601's, inexpensive, but also found the Ultrafire 602A1.

Yes, note the suffix....A1

The next generation 602.

Sightly larger, still uses one AA battery, but can also take a 3.7v lithium rechargeable, or 3v AA 14500 (eg 1/2 CRV3).

Bought two, inexpensive also.

Has a luminuous green tail switch, slightly protrudes.

Has output greater than standard 602 with Alkaline AA, virtually same as Fenix L1P, 601's still brighter.

With 3v AA, (1/2 CRV) output greatly increased, 23% better, same as 601, L2P.

Very pleased, just wish I'd bought more, as in the dark, I didn't realise they were newer model.

There is one supplier selling on ebay, plus rechargeable AA 3.7v's, more to come some no doubt.

In deference to Dae etc, I will not state the prices I paid HK$, of course you should also take into account airfare, hotel costs etc...

It was quite amazing to see the torches strung up vertically with cable ties, all had batteries fitted for testing, and new torches were tested and batteries included when purchased, albeit cheapies, lasted 30 mins.

I actually used up all my HK$ on one purchase, and had to go find a bank to get some more !!!

Came back, fully loaded.

Side issue....

Watsons and ParknShop stores were all selling packaged 20 ish AA's with free fans, half UK price, or less.

I had taken a newly purchased fish weighing scale (25kg) to weigh suitcases, worried about weight of batteries etc.

Just came in under limit.

Best other buy, switched double sockets HK$10, switched 3 way socket adaptors, HK$20 each, exchange rate UK£=HK$14.

Re: Just back from Hong Kong, Apliu Street Market...Torch Heaven

Are thoses AA 3.7v lithium rechargeable batteries protected?

The lithium battery dropping below the minimum voltage level is a definite issue using unprotected ~3.7 li-ion cells in a 1.5V nominal light.
