Seems pretty new; it's not even on S&W's website yet. One site selling it says it has regulation circuitry, but also claims a 6 hour runtime. At 65 lumens. Either the output or runtime is overclaimed, or both. Seems a pretty big plunge to take without learning more first. $50-55 looks like an average price for one.

The reason that you don't see them on the S&W web site is because they are not manufactured or imported by Smith & Wesson. The use of the S&W branding for flashlights is licensed to a company called PowerTech in TN. The flashlights bearing the S&W branding are manufactured by an assembly house in China and then imported for sale under the S&W name on the packaging. Other than the brand on the package, Smith & Wesson doesn't really have any other relationship to the flashlight products.

The manufacturer's page on the light that you're interested in can be found at: http://www.powertechinc.com/1024_index.html

I believe that this item is only available at Costco.com

Insofar as the price? I agree it's a bit high and marketed to those who will be sucked in by the S&W name. Realistically, it just another Chinese import.

Seems that several of the gun makers are farming out their brand names for use on imports as a means of revenue generation. S&W, Winchester, and Browning are a few that immediately come to mind. Guess people must have stocked up on guns before Y2K and the demand has diminished :)
