Solar Yard Lights...change to Nimh?

Hello. I recently purchased a bunch of solar yard lights from Home Depot. I choose these models specifically because they had AA Nicds as a power source.

I am in the process of replacing a bunch of older Nimhs (1800 - 2250s) with newer 2700s, etc. I am just wondering if I could use the NiMhs in the solar lights. Would the solar charger charge the Nimhs? Would the Nimhs be appropriate for the lights?

Thanks!
Drew

I too have thought about this. I think it wont work well for two reasons.

1. A higher capasity cell may not fully charge.

2. Ni-Cad handles full discharge better than Ni-MH

all the WHITE lawn lights have a booster and will drain the cells to about empty. I think the lige of the NiNH cells would be severly shortened by the deep discharge.

Works great. I have been doing this for years. The lights stay on longer and the batteries still last for 2-3 years

I've put NiMH in solar lights when the originals were dead. It worked okay. The NiMH lasted for several years. I don't think I'd replace new NiCads though. There's probably a good reason they come with NiCads.
