Tritium, Strontium Aluminate & 25 9000+ mcd Nicha\'s

Makes one of these!!!
Ok I used the Radio Shack $7.00 Water proof 3D cell wonder and added 25 9000+ mcd Nichas (way brighter than a single overdriven LS)... Mixed up some Strontium Aluminate Glow powder in 15 minute clear epoxy. Dismembered 8 glow rings and inserted the elements. Popped the reflector in and filled er up. I am so impressed with this thing I may make another and take a little more time.

The Tritium elements are surprisingly bright and give off quite a glow in the head for the next 15 years or so...

They do give off enough light to see in complete darkness.
I will always be able to find this light in the dark. The LED's are extremely bright and they charge the glow powder Epoxy nicely... My only regret is that a tiny spot in the face did not get completely filled in with the glow-Epoxy. (A risk one takes with pouring the stuff carefully in the Bulb hole in the reflector from the back to fill it up... Air bubble) Next time I think I will use slower acting Epoxy.

The picture with the glow ring elements at there brightest was taken with out any light stimulation for the Glow-Epoxy for over 12 hours. The glowing Epoxy shot is about 10 minutes after a good charge and gives off more than enough light to walk around with.

Thanks!!!
That's pretty much what I was going for

Oh and I got the air bubble fixed!
Drilled a tiny hole from the back of the reflector and filled it up... presto.
which gives me and idea to use different color glow epoxys next time. and let them cure seperately.
Green, Aqua, and Blue.

Thanks!!
I'm hooked on the Tritium and glow powder.
I want to do more stuff like this.
Somehow incorperate a 5W LS or two. Wondering what would be a good platform.

Hoo! Cool light, well done! Reminds me of a carnival ride - in fact, you should give it a name along those lines...

it reminds me of a control panel off an old star-trek type show...the colors make it look...old high-tech...

Very nice mod. How did you wire the LED's?

Very cool flash,
I've been pondering building something similar but with a luxeon that puts out alot of UV. Anyone know how much faster the glow powder will charge with UV(dental blue or royal blue) as opposed to white?

I think this imaginative and enchanting light might deserve a supercilious dichotomy for a name:

How about Ion Flux?

Thanks everybody for the comments!
Sunspot: The LED's are all wired in parallel and direct to the D cells. I used extra metal soldered to the LED's cathodes (Lead that holds the die.) for heat sinking.

Icebreak: Ion Flux it is!! Very cool name, just rocks.

I am so happy with this light, I am now positive that I'm going to build another similar design.
Back to the drawing board.

What Slick said.

When you get it the way you like it, maybe send Aeon one.

You know, I do remember in this Arcade game, X-men vs Street fighter or is it Marvel heros something something vs something else, Iron man had a super weapon call photo cannon.... Somehow it does look a bit like photon cannon.

My comment's simple...I have GOT to get one of those... No way I'll be able to build one for a long while, so will have to find someone who can make one for sensible money (in totally broke UK university student terms).

That is probably the creation I've seen here which has so far had the greatest instant "I REALLY want one!" reaction.

Think Photon Cannon's probably a good name for that one too!

Later,

Zel.

Awesome light! It's nice to see some new & different ideas like this.

Considering the cost of all those components, I'm thinking maybe a more "premium" flashlight might be in order for a future mod.

OK, the question is a simple one now.

*If* you were to make another one or more of these for selling, what would you be looking for as a price (preferably including shipping to the UK - without batteries of course), as if it were affordable, I'd certainly be interested.

No?--alright then, how about EternaGlow?
