I have tested in direct drive a luxeon 3w: tx1jw
with an AW 1500 3.7v 1100mAH

And it's really bright, more than the 7w/8w golstons and 5w.
And it become very heat in a few seconds.
Is it dangerous for the luxeon ?

Hello logan:)

Stop it immediatly:hairpull:

Since the vf is 3,17-3,51V and your LIR will give 3,7 up to 4,2V out of the charger, you will destroy the led.
Do you have used a heatsink for your test?
If not, you are in luck that the led will shine anymore.

Best regards

Hi,
Don't worry it is not roasted yet :lolsign:

What kind of battery can i use in direct drive ?

Seller gave me a RB59 2/ohm 5% D3 resistor to connect it to 12v input.

I do DD on J & K bins from LiIons all the time, no resistors at all and have never had a failure. (yet, anyway)

'Course I do use massive heat sinks and make sure that there is good thermal transfer from the sink to the metal body of the light.

i've replaced half a dozen luxeons from abuse when combining LiON 1 cell and J bin luxeons.. the K bin is a perfect match for direct-drive. You can combine that battery with the D2DIM driver and have level control with PWM.. but i would find a K bin emitter.. the Jbins will push on the order of 1.7A which regardless of the fact they will tolerate it.. the lumen output will drop very fast.. after a year of use i've seen luxeons outputting less than 70% their initial output when using direct-drive.

I have tested 2x1.5v AA, and the luminosity seem moderated and it don't generate a lot of heat.

A good combinaison ?

You are underdriving your TX1J. Less light, less heat but more efficient.
