Would an MN01 take 3,6 (4,2) volt?

I'm just curious if it would instaflash, or just reduce life span. I have a couple of incoming R123's, and I have two E1Es that I use all the time. What would you think, any chance of success?

Does anyone do anything particular to reduce voltage right after charging, to avoid bashing the bulb too much the first seconds?

It will fry. Don't bother trying it.

You might try using an MN03 in your E1E with the R123. It will work, but is quite a bit underdriven. It might be too yellow for your liking. The MN02 will work as well, but is even dimmer and more yellow.

Ideally, you want to grind down a Scorpion socket to fit in the E1E bezel. Then you can use a Stinger lamp or a Strion lamp. They're rated for 3.6 volts. They do draw a lot of current, though. I'd expect them to be pretty hard on the R123 cells. They're probably going to pull over 2C from most R123 cells, which is higher than most people recommend. Runtime is also going to be rather short.

I'm still trying to find a nice 3 watt bi-pin 3.6~3.7 volt lamp. I think that would be ideal. No one seems to have one, though. :(
