Go to the Shoppe and pick up an A19 with Cree UV led. Best there is.

A friend of mine picked one of those up. It appears to run direct drive off one of those 3xAAA battery carriers. I didn't see any circuitry inside that would suggest it is regulated, or that it has any kind of voltage step-up.

Hey! I think this is the same light, for about a quarter of the price:

I have one of the 8 LED lights from Dae's shop as seen here. I think this is probably the same as the one on the Lighthound page.

It is not as bright as my friends, but then again it doesn't have as many LEDs in it, and it cost me a whole heck of a lot less. It works well enough for what I want, though. It finds the cat pee in the carpet, and makes the security stripe in most bills fluoresce. If I wanted a brighter one, I think I'd buy one of the cheapies like the one suggested above.

Here's another option. Get a 3 cell Mag, and drop in one of these:

If money were no object, I'd consider one of the Aleph19 with the Cree. They're expensive, though...

Is it a good deal?

If not, any suggestions on a UV light ...I will be using it for night time insect hunting.

There are several good (albeit expensive) ones at www.uvflashlights.com. I got this one (PDF): http://www.xenopuselectronix.com/xeled/Datasheets/XeLED-3XUV-R.pdf

Yes, it's expensive but works much better than the fluorescent tube light I previously had. The less expensive non-regulated models on this web site are probably pretty good also, but I don't know how they compare with the United Nuclear model.

Supposedly there's a Jil-Lite CR2 modified with a Cree UV emitter that's pretty good, if you want a small package. Don't know where to buy them.

I have the Inova X5 in UV and it works great for me. I too use it to check out insects and hunt for scorpions around the house, thankfully I have'nt seen any. It's amazing what you will see in your carpet indoors with a UV.
