Elektro Lumens \'Blaster II\' 3 \'D\' Cells

I have 3 prototypes of the latest version of the Blaster, which I may call "Blaster II". It still uses the high grade aircraft aluminum alloy, and super hard grade 3 anodizing. It now will hold 3 'D' cell batteries.

Another change is the optics. I had a custom 30mm diameter collimating optics designed for this flashlight. This illiminates the need for an optics holder, cutting cost. I knew it would capture and focus more of the light, but I am amazed at what I see!

I put in 3 fairly fresh alkaline Energizers, and turn it on. It is a very focused and bright light, I could tell right away the difference between this optics and the Lumileds optics design. When I metered it, I was shocked to see it measures at 1,557 lux! This is not seriously overdriven either, as it has some amount of resistance in it. I'll have some comparison beam shots up later. I'll have more photos up on my web page later. Here are a few pics.

Here is a shot from the inside of the head, showing the new 30mm optics. The optics are mounted in the head. No more bothersome optics holders to be troubled with.

My goal is to make a top quality flashlight, at a reasonable price.

Very nice Wayne, can't wait to see the beamshots.

Couple of questions:

1)What is the throw like with the new optics?

2)How much do the Blasters weigh?

TIA

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I haven't had a chance to do any beam shots yet, not use it outside yet. I just got them from the manufacturer a little while ago.

They weigh 13.8 oz without batteries, and 29.7 oz (1.85 Lbs) with batteries.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">These are the 1 watt version. I will have a 5W version too. It will be 5 'D' cells.

These are the prototypes. I don't have a production date yet, but I should know pretty soon.

Hmmmm, I don't have a 3D cell light yet. Guess that'll change soon, maybe?

Will the 5W be regulated? Five cells sounds iffy since the voltage will drop pretty low as the Alkalines discharge.

Have you considered the practicality of different barrels with the head? I'm wondering if it would be possible to have an adapter made that would allow a SF C3/D3/Z3 or 9P body to attach and use the Blaster ][ as a custom Turbo head of sorts. That would make a far more compact light at the cost of using CR123 batteries and an expensive donor body.

Do you still have plans to produce a 3C/2D version? I'd prefer the smaller size.

Also, some time ago you mentioned that you might make a regulator an option at additional cost; have you pursued that idea any further?

It looks great!

I know I can charge more, and later one I may need to, but this is to get the ball rolling, so to speak.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">To me 5 D cells is the perfect choice for the 5 watt LS. I've seen it gets about 12 hours of bright light.

I'm sure an adapter could be made. But it does seem the head is a bit large for such a small body. There may be a market for smaller 5W flashlights. Obviously, this one doesn't fill that need.

This 5D would be the 'Cruiser Bruiser.'

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I may also do the 3C/2D option. My thought is that it could also be used with 2D cells, and a voltage regulator of some sort. Depends?

I've talked to a few people about a voltage regulator to be used, but nothing definate. I also had my own voltage regulator I designed, but I don't have much interest in doing my own, I'd rather purchase them ready to pop in.

My name is Wayne, not Jesus.

I might be able to have a flashlight made, but God's flashlights (Sun and stars) are better, and last a lot longer too.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Admittedly God's "sun" and "white dwarf" modes last far longer, and the lamp is more reliable (although rare explosions do happen), but yours produce a focused beam and have an on/off switch, not to mention better portability.

Wow, good looking light! Simply a real beauty. I love its simplicity, no fancy shape and cutting that requires expensive tools that add unneccessary cost to end users. Brilliant!

Beam shot please:)
