streamlight keymate mod

I put a smjled in the keymate using the 4 lr44 battery. It is very bright, but now its acting up and not turning on consistently.What grounds it? is it tha metal washer above the led?

Isn't 4 cells too much voltage for a smjled? Perhaps the LED died. My Stylus with a DD 26Mcd did what you're describing when it died.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that you don't have the plastic sleeve covering all of the cells and that an edge of one of the cells is making contact with the tube.

I think I got it, it just needed a bit more solder on the neg lead to make good contact with ground.Works every time now!

4 cells is more than reccommended,but they seem to sag under load and its been fine for over a month, so far. I had been using 3 cells in another light and decided to step it up and see if it would hold, and it does. I was think of trying N cell but this is working ,and I have 20+ batteries for it.

The sleeve was covering all the cells,good idea.Ill have to keep an eye on that in the future.
