The mosquitos are about to carry us away here. Especially for camping a yellow, orange or red LED light would be very useful to avoid attracting giga-mosquitos. Red or orange would work also and a bluish tinged white light is supposed to be like a dinner bell.
So, what is the best luxeon type LED to use in a mod (1 W lux should be bright enough)? Are any yellow or red/orange LEDs more efficient than whites in Lumens/watt? Do I have to worry about voltages being wrong if I mod a white LED light?
What might be a good cheap headlamp to mod? I like Dae's 25 LED headlamp, but the idea of soldering 25 little leds makes me unhappy. Has anyone tried any of the 1 W Dae Luxeon headlamps?
I suppose I could use colored filters, but that wouldn't be as much fun as finding a superefficient odd colored LED.
