While at Walmart a few days ago I picked up a Rayovac 2AA 84 cent light to see what I could do to mod it. I went back today to pick up a 2D 3 Watt Magled drop in and figured it would fit in the 84 cent light quite well.

Only two thing were done to make the led fit. First the led would not fit in the retainer, so I opted to cut it rather than to bore it out.

After that I had to cut the small tabs in the end cap that holds the bulb in.

I'm driving it with two E2 Lithiums and it is very bright. Slightly brighter than my Brinkmann 3 Watt headlamp. The beam is not perfectly round, but still very pleasant. It has great throw with a good amount of spill. All in all the mod was under $20, and very worth it.

Hello mdvb:)

Good work, but since the light has a plastic housing, you should be careful with the heat.
The heatsink can't transfer the heat to the body and your hand /air.

So you should use it only for short periods.

Best regards
