Go to Richmond and look for cheap flashlights? Don't confuse it with Chinatown in Van though, they're catering more to a local and tourist market. Richmond (city where the airport is) is more of the Asian trade and financial center.
While it may not appeal to the younger crowd, hopping on a ferry to go over to Victoria Island and seeing the sights of the provincial capitol is interesting for some. And don't miss the Zoo. For real tacky tourist stuff to do, go to Gastown, tacky but kinda fund. Also if you're in the mood to visit college campuses, UBC is in the city, and Simon Fraser is a somewhat short drive away. Costco stores are all over the place up there, and they carry different merchandise than the stores in the States do.
