Got mine 3/28/2006, ( NEW Improved switch model )

It is SN#000133 , from Matt at BatteryJunction

It also had 3 shiney spot nicks on the head cooling fins
and a Sharpie marker won't get the job done
rubs off too easy / still looks like shinney crap 3 hours later
Their HAII won't stick on the sharp edges of the cooling fins

I use "AW's" PROtected RCR123a's (4.2v ea.) in mine
The instructions and warranty says you can .... so I do

Mine also has the "warm" yellow tint to it - which I don't like
I believe it is caused by the collimator lens that they use
Which is a hunk of polycarbonate plastic
Which must not be very clear and pure when they mold it
A quality piece of optical grade glass sure would improve this light
Course ... it would prob. add $60.00 to the final price too

Some of these are not properly focused to a nice tight beam-spot
You can find out by shining it on a wall @ 2 feet or up to 12 feet
If you see square corners in the beam-(spot) - it is not well focused
It will NOT throw a good distance if the SPOT is not tightly focused
I had to send mine back - with the insistance that it be tightly focused

That was my experience..... I do like it and use it frequently

But where can we get a pure/clear glass collimator focusing lens to put in it to improve the tint ?????

My Striker is 000507 from Battery Junction and it also has the warm yellow tint.
The tint is not caused by the optic as I have tried the optic with a white LED and it comes out white.
My guess is that the folks who made it wanted the light to look like an incandescent flashlight.

I'd say my tint is a little more toward green side than yellow, but I don't mind. I do have a nice tight hot spot though, but it does have rings in the spill, again I don't mind that happening, doesnt' really matter unless I'm searching for walls anyway.

But MockingBird .....if i remove the head and plastic optic and then shine my light on a close wall ..... I get a white square from the Lux V .

It's yellow when i re- assemble it .

What does that mean ????

So I am not the only one who notices the warm "yellowish" tint. Although I prefer a whiter, bluer, beam, I have started to grow used to this on the Striker. Yes, it does sort of look like an incandesent light.
My serial number is #939 and the light came without any instructions which I thought was odd. I got mine right from Led Logic.

My particular light is focused fairly tightly and does provide a great throw. It is quite bright and does out-throw my Gladius, but not by very much.
One thing I'm not too thrilled with is the way the switching is set-up with the "clickie". I find the light a bit difficult to use. The timing on my switch is a bit touchy.
And the small "nicks" on the bezel arent great news, but in my case, the "Sharpie" does the trick.
All in all, it's a lot of fun.

Dear TooMany Gizmos,

Does the Stirker have a Luxeon IV ????? I thought it was a Luxeon III ???????????

Upon inspection, the LED in the Striker does appear to be physically larger than the ones in my other Luxeon III lights.

Yes .... HappyMan ...... the switch does take some getting used-to.

But this switching sure is WAY better than the older model switches.

I did not buy until they were improved.

They had NO momentary flashing ability over 2 seconds .

............ TMG ..:grin2:

PS .. It's a .. LUX V .. (I was told )........but LedLogic website says .... Luxeon 3 watt LED (with up to 5 watts output) // ... I don't think there is a Lux IV , only 1,3,& 5

Are all you guys using the conservative 3.0 rechargeables and/or Primary throw-aways ???

Or the 3.7 rechargeables (RCR123a) (4.20v ea.) like I've been doing since I got it in March this year ????

What did Your warranty sheet say you could use ????

GIZMOS,

I should have said the optic in MY Striker doesn't seem to yellow up the
tint on MY LED, but maybe that is because I replaced the emitter with a K2
and man is it white! I replaced it because the original burned out. Yeah, I think
the Striker uses a luxeon III. The voltage to run a V would overwhelm a K2.
Apparently it overwhelmed the III, but it tooka few weeks to do so. I use two
3.2 volt rechargeables from Battery Junction. By the way, I had to ream out the hole just a bit for the K2 to fit in the star. If all 4 of the corners of the K2 were beveled instead of just 3, it would have fit without altering.

My Striker that I just got is #489 from Battery Junction. It also is yellowish, I wanted to take off the emitter and see what it is, but I'm not going to try it since that epoxy or whatever is on it.

No need to remove the emitter to find out what it is.
There were no numbers or letters on the back of mine.
The ledlogic.com site states that the Striker VG is the
brightest 3 watt LED flashlight on the market.
If you mean remove the whole luxeon star, I haven't done that.

Update - Duh, you probably are concerned with tint and the bin
number. Like I said, I haven't done that.

I wonder what the serial numbers were and how many were made before they re-designed the switch electronics .

Can anyone supply a serial number from the first light's sold with the first original switches ?????

Mine.... w/ser.# 133 , was one of the very first few sent out to fill the orders of those requesting a light with the New switch .

Does any one know the *actual* Birth Date of the Striker VG light ???

Mockingbird, can you take a macro picture of the emitter you removed from the Striker? Or look closely and see whether the elements in there look like they're divided into quadrants?

:)

Using a 10x power magnifying loop , looking at the emitter in my Nuwai Lux V , I can barely make out lines separating the 4 quadrants .

But looping the emitter in my Striker VG , I can NOT see any hint of quadrant lines .

So maybe it is a LuxIII emitter .... after all .

( I really thought MattK told me it was a Lux V )

I also noticed my emitter Dome has a LOT of imperfections and scarring on the surface . Some areas even look like star-burst cracking in the silicone dome .

Is that the first sign of a poor quality emitter ??????
Are the better quality domes extremely clear ??????

I may send it back again ..... for an emitter replacement

Seems like that would also cause artifacts in the beam .

Mine's 555, and i recommend people not use rechargeables without giving their torch a good test despite supposedly being able to. I've had two, and on both of them output refused to drop as low as it did when i used disposables. There was no obvious difference between the 3.0v and 3.7v cells. I don't know if the circuitry gets confused when it gets too warm or what, but two is enough for me not to bother.

I rotated the optic to improve the beam a bit. Mine leans toward yellow/green also. I have a couple of other torches that lean more towards yellow. The hot spot is smaller than my Blaster-3P's, but the corona is larger. Makes for a very good thrower.

Archangel,

I had the same problem with rechargeables in the Striker.
I made a button shaped voltage reducer using a piece of round flexible plastic
and a 1N4003 Diode from Radio Shack.instead of trying a resistor. I place it between
the rechargeables (Tenergy 750 mAh from Battery Junction) and it does the trick.
Now it dims properly.
