WA 1185

Can I drive the 1185 bulb with 3 lithium 18650's? The bulb is rated at 9.6 volts and the 3 18650's would run at 3.6 x3 = 10.8 volts. CAn the bulb handle that much overdrive? Or would the li-ion batteries sag under the load?

A fully charged Li-ION is 4.2 volts. I'm not sure of the safe voltage range of a 1185 though... I think I've heard people running them at around 12 volts?

This has been done before, but it require multiple clicks if using protected cells, I don't know if it works with all types of protected cells but is should work with Pila168A and AW's new 18650. Unprotected LG cells shouldn't be a problem, but I don't recommend using unprotected cells.
Fivemega has made several lights running a 3s3p Li-Ion setup, I haven't heard of any problems with those.

I have a MagSD that I currently have fitted with three unprotected 14500 cells to drive an 1185 bulb. It's way outside the design limits of the batteries but it works. I haven't blown a bulb or a battery yet.

Don send me that SD so I can tribore it for 17500's your scaring me

Also the 14500 will drop significantly under a 3 amp load where the 18650 will not drop as much but people do do it

A mag sd cranking out 1300 lumens!!!! Nice, what kind of runtime would you get with 17500's? Wouldn't it get so hot after a few minutes that you couldn't hold it?
