Well, last week I got a 1xAAA ebay clone. I loved the output and beam from a single AAA cell, but the threads are weak and mine became stripped after a few days of playing. I wanted to use the head in something else, and noticed the diameter was similar to the 2x AAA Energizer penlight. So, I used a pipecutter to cut it so it read "gizer" (dremel would work too) and filed the threads off the clone head to make a really tight fit. Tapped it in with a toy hammer and it is so tight it appears that adhesive will not be needed. Voila, 1xAAA penlight with output identical to the AAA clone.

Not wanting to waste the 2xAAA head, I placed the entire capsule from the original penlight in a 2xAA cheap everready PR light. WIth a little bending of tabs it works with no soldering, etc! Output a little less than a similar light with a SMJLED PR bulb. So, no LEDS were wasted or harmed.

Size comparison with other lights

2xAAA original light on left, 1xAAA on right. Similar brightness.
