Hi all! This thread's for the car lovers.

I got a chance to join my wife on Sunday at the 2006 Concours D'elegance at Pebble Beach CA. She was a sponsor there so I got a pass to walk pretty much anywhere I wanted. I snapped a bunch of pics for those of you who like these types of cars etc.

There were a ton of high brow cars driving around town. You couldn't swing a polo mallet without hitting a modena or some other exotic.

I see a lot of them around town but this was way different.

Enjoy :)

I'll start with a car that I had wished I'd read the plaque for its name when I was there.
I love that old RUSH tune Red Barchetta

Nice post!

Is it just me, or do all the newer models look tacky compared to the classics.

Holy Jezebel that is awesome! What a privilege you had to go attend it this year, and great pictures as well. And that Lambo is indeed the new Spyker, as MayCooper pointed out.

Hey! Thanks for the link to the Spyker. I just couldn't figure out what it was and thought that it looked very sleek. I bet Lambo's would be sexier though.

BTW Is that little Barchetta the sweetest thing ever!?! I want one!

No close-up pics of the Saab interior but you can see in in another pic at in the distance. sorta. :)

"Little Red Barchetta!"

Now these are something Tony. Thanks for sharing. If you're interested in the Barchetta, try checking out Cavallino.

Enjoy!

Oh! Thank you so much Clarence. That is the perfect link and they even have a red one on the cover for this issue. I think I'll subscribe for a year. It's only $40.

I Googled the Lyric's for Red Barchetta by RUSH, the Canadian Super Group of yor.

This is one great song to drive to. Here are the lyrics.

Inspiried by a nice morning drive, by richard s. foster
Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson

Red Barchetta
P1040571b.jpg

My uncle has a country place, that no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm, before the motor law
And on sundays I elude the eyes and hop the turbine freight
To far outside the wire, where my white-haired uncle waits.

Jump to the ground
As the turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind,
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me, an old machine ---
For fifty-odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream

I strip away the old debris, that hides a shining car
A brilliant red barchetta, from a better, vanished time
I fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime...

Wind in my hair ---
Shifting and drifting ---
Mechanical music ---
Adrenalin surge ---

Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware

Suddenly, ahead of me, across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air-car shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires, to run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley as another joins the chase

Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud
With fear and hope, Ive got a desperate plan

At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded
At the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle
At the fireside...

Great pics Tony, thanks for sharing them. I never knew that the Concours was actually held on the golf course.

And I guess one would have to be a golfer to understand this rant, but if I were to play that course on Monday and saw the condition of the 18th after it had been a parking lot for the weekend, I would be more than a little angry after paying close to $500 to play ($450 plus cart). Though knowing how they care for things down there, I'd guess that the course was probably closed for maintenance after the Concours.

... And for those who think $450 is too much to pay for a round of golf, and/or are not much of a golfer, play the Peter Hay Par 3 course across the street from the Lodge, costs almost nothing to play all you want, and it's maintained by the PB company to the same standards as the Links. The greens are like glass! Then you can say that you've played at Pebble :)

Great pics, Tony. Nice hero shot. BTW, you never did mention which one you bought.
