Pluto has been removed from planet status.
Yes we know - sit down.

 I couldn't help my self. It's a quote from "The Right Stuff"

Seriuously though it's a bit sad on poor little Pluto. :(

I saw something on the front of the paper (the Sacramento Bee) a few days ago that said our system has TWELVE planets in it - Pluto, its satellite (moon) Charon, and a couple of other planet-like bodies that I believe were larger than Pluto but beyond Pluto's orbit.

The three new ones were to be Ceres, one of the or THE largest asteroid between Mars and Jupiter, Charon, Pluto's moon, and one larger body past Pluto. They're all classified as Dwarf planets now.

Won't this totally "F" astrology?... :lolsign:

maybe we should come up with a name for Pluto to go with it's diminished status. How about calling it "Farto" from now on ?

..Buttune?

..Wenus?

..Stupiter?

..the orbiting heavenly body formerly known as Pluto?

It has the feel of a melody with the last note missing.

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.......

Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti .....

Thats kinda weird, so i guess every astronomy book printed to date will have some false info in it. I felt the same way about Pluto when i was in Elementary school. How is it a planet, its tiny!

First the Bronotsaurus and now Pluto.
I figure the science book publishers will catch up somewhere in the next few decades.

My very educated mother just served us noodles.

I found out about this last night,
I think its a bunch of BS,
they went and changed the definition of a planet,
I think, so that they didnt have to include all the other ..."balls" they have found out there.
Now they are all draft? planets?

eh, most college grads cant tell you how many planets there were before anyway,
now they will really be screwed up.

The next thing you know, they'll be telling us the moon isn't made out of cheese.

Hmm, I kind of like the idea of just getting some folks together, give a definition to something commonly accepted but undefined, then publish it. Wow! This could be fun. Might have to put my thinking cap on, have a beverage or two and see what comes of it.

Some people have done it the other way around finding words for something that's defined but not named. They had the great idea of using words which just spent time hanging around on signs denoting some more or less unknown stretch of land, and did something useful with them.
