After all the complaining about the beam of the E1, I decided to see what it would look like with a Luxeon I instead of the Rigel. I pulled off the stock board and LED and soldered the RY0H directly to the leads. No heat siinking appears needed. The light looks a little brighter than stock and runs for 3.5 hrs on a Tenergy 950 mAh AAA. No other modification was needed; this is an easy one!
Well, mostly. If the head is screwed all the way back onto the barrel, there's a 1/16" gap between the barrel and the point at which it normally turns on (there's a gap there already; it just doubles in size).
There are no artifacts to the beam; simply beautiful. I'll add pictures tomorrow; I have to teach at 9 tomorrow.
Is there a way to just upload the beamshots? Or do I have to put them on another site and then link to that?
Those of you with good stars: get to it! I'd love to see the results of a TYOH in this one...
