I noticed how snugly Mr. Bulk's split 5/8" automotive hose fit over the 123's in my NexNeedle. It takes effort to insert or remove batteries, but the batteries aren't inclined to fall out of the sleeve.
I had previously purchased 3/4" radiator hose that was too fat to fit into a C flashlight. Mr. Bulk's approach inspired me to try to utilize the 3/4" hose by splitting it and then removing a 1/4" wide strip out of it. It slides easily into a C body and tries to expand to its original diameter. Thus it makes a non slip sleeve inside the flashlight that can be removed with needle nose pliers. 123 batteries slide easily in and out.
A section of this 3/4" hose split without removal of material should work in a D flashlight with C's or sub C's the same way the split 5/8 " hose works in a C flashlight with 123's.
