I have a Surefire L4, and the light gets pretty hot after a few minutes.
Is this normal for these lights?
It seems reasonable to think that a 5W light should put out some heat, but I wondered if this is common for smaller lights.
I haven't noticed any heat when using small 3W lights, like the Q3.

Yes, this is normal. The LuxV is a beast and needs some serious heatsinking. Smaller lights get hot quickly (depending on drive level, of course), and this is where you need to pay attention when configuring custom or homemade lights.

The L4 becomes especially hot due to its small surface area. The much larger head of the L5 only becomes moderately warm.
