Sad news, Peter Brock has died in a Targa Western Australia race about midday today (Friday).

If someone can find a news article link that'd be great. Just heard it on the radio. :(

I got a mint Italian leather steering wheel signed by him - very very nice man.

RIP King of the Mountain!!

Thanks Haz, yeah I really feel bad now he's so tragically gone.

Like Steve Irwin, he died doing what he loved.

From looking at the pictures and video on the internet, their car seemed to be driving up a bit of a hill and cresting into a left hand corner. The skid marks indicate to me that the car lost traction during the turn and the arse-end slid out causing the drivers side b-pillar to collide with a solid tree. I suspect instant death via head trauma.

Peter's co-driver has been taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Ahh geez. When it's your time, its your time.

Pila_Power, i guess you never know when your time is up. It sounds shocking when it happens to someone famous, who you think may stay around forever until they get old.

I was really saddened to hear this. I have been a huge fan of his for over 30 years, and have met him a number of times. He was so much more than just an awesome driver, he was an inspiration to many and used that to try and help improve the lot of those less fortunate.

A good brief article on GP.com: http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns17424.html

RIP Brockie. :(

Hasn't been a particularly good week for Australia, Celebrity-death wise.
