I was farting around today and decided to spend a couple of minutes converting a Lumilite 4600 (6v) to a usable light. This light has a 4D carrier or uses the 6v square batteries. It's wired backwards (center is negative) and the outside is positive. I ran a couple of jumpers from the back of the light so I can use clips and change it the correct polarity. I added a piece of lexan so the springs won't work. I then added a Nitize bulb and now this thing should just about run forever when the juice goes out. It does a nice job of softly lighting a room (with bounce)

quick n dirty, smart solution to flip the polarity.. everLED makes 'backwards' drop-ins specifically for use in lanterns .. but it's so much more fun to solve it yourself!
