Hello All. As you can see I'm very new to this forum. I just bought a Fenix P1 to have as an EDC and then spent some more time on CPF.com and the light bug got me :grin2: . Anyway my second and most recent purchase was the striker VG. Its pretty cool. Looking at the number comparison on flashlightreviews.com, I thought it would have had MUCH more throw than my p1, and it does, just not AS much as I thought (I still think its awesome and wouldn't want to give it back). Ok let me get to my point... It seems as if the center of the light on my striker VG isn't centered properly, I took a couple pictures (I don't know how to properly take pictures of beams but you can get the point from what I have done) and I placed the light perfectly in front of the wall from about 5 feet and heres the beem, it seems that the corona or spill (not sure what its called) is just off to the side (this spill to the side is much more noticible in person than on pictures too), , I left the light laying there and turned it and took another picture, and another to try to show it better. Can you guys check it out and tell me if this is normal for this type of light or is this a manufacturers defect that should be returned? Sorry for the long post; Thanks for all the info everyone !

First, your Geocities site is over its bandwidth. Try a hosting site like PhotoBucket or ImageShack. I use IS, and it works quite well for me.

If an emitter isn't PERFECTLY centered in its reflector/optic, the hotspot will be off-center in the beam. If yours is only slightly off, keep in mind that the Striker-VG is intended as a tactical light, not a WWH (white-wall-hunting) light, so a perfect beam isn't really necessary. If you check out FR's review of it, you'll notice the sample's hotspot was also off-center. However, if it bothers you enough in practical use as to discourage you from using the light, exchange it for another.

Hi heynoww - Welcome to CPF!

I just checked my Striker VG against a wall and my beam does not exhibit what I see in yours. Just snapped a pix for you to compare. Image is -2 underexposed to better show beam shape.

I think I would contact the vendor and inquire.

Hope this helps,
Bill

heynoww - Mine is like yours. I rotated the optic so that the bulge is at the top (button-side) as i find that most useful as close distances. At far distances the corona isn't visible, so it doesn't matter.

Heynoww ,

That's really not too bad .

I'll trade with ya .

My corona is square on one side .

Round on one side - square like a box on the other side .

I don't have a camera - or I'd show ya really BAD corona.

Wan'na trade ??????

Ahhhhh, Thanks for all the help guys. And it really doesn't bother me that much so I don't need to exchange it or anything. My newb thinking just thought that since the center is offcenter, it might affect throw or something or just simply not be as powerful as a perfectly centered one. If this bit of sidespill to one side doesn't affect the overall output or throw, then its no biggie, I just didn't know. Mann, I wonder what light is next on the agenda. Thanks all !
