My sincerest sympathies to all the victims, families and friends. :candle:

Gun control is stupid, it seems the youth of western societies are screaming for attention, meaning, and answers. In light of larger world events, I think we need to comprehensively rethink what is meaningful as families and societies rather than just focusing on security.

maybe ban guns ones and for all?

well..."weapons" like knife too?

but in such a big country... getting one is easy, as long as you have money and go to the black markets...

I believe Chevrofreak was using a little tongue and cheek when he posted what turned out to be baiting and sent the thread in a new direction.

Gun control discussion is better suited for the underground. I would love to debate it but I won't go down there.

The gun control aspect of this thread needs to stop here. Thanks

A bit more information on the shooter (still not official release yet):

Montreal Gunman:

A man with a black trench coat whose shooting rampage in a Montreal college killed one person and wounded 19 others before he was slain by police said on a blog in his name that he liked to play a role-playing Internet game about the Columbine shootings. The gunman who opened fire at Dawson College on Wednesday was Kimveer Gill, 25, of Laval, near Montreal, a police official said Thursday, speaking on condition of anonymity because authorities were not ready to announce it publicly yet. He also said police had searched Gill's home.
...
The last of six journal entries Wednesday was posted at 10:41 a.m, about two hours before the gunmen was shot to death at Dawson.

He said on the site that he was drinking whiskey in the morning and described his mood the night before as "crazy" and "postal."

He said on the site that he liked to play "Super Columbine Massacre," an Internet-based computer game that simulates the April 20, 1999, shootings at the Colorado high school by two of its students that left 13 people dead.

"His name is Trench. you will come to know him as the Angel of Death," he wrote on his vampirefreaks.com profile. "He is not a people person. He has met a handful of people in his life who are decent. But he finds the vast majority to be worthless, no good, conniving, betraying, lying, deceptive."

He wrote that he hates jocks, preppies, country music and hip-hop.

"Work sucks ... school sucks ... life sucks ... what else can I say? ... Life is a video game you've got to die sometime," he added.

Myself, I always wonder if anti-psychotic drugs given to kids by doctors play a role in many of these incidents now-a-days.

I have read rumors that the Columbine "kids" had such histories but the medical folks (docs and pharmaceutical companies) have locked this stuff away (paid off parents) to prevent lawsuits.

Taking Tin Foil Hat back off now…

I don't think this could have been prevented in any way...... even if this specific incident was prevented somehow, there would be another disturbed kid somewhere else doing the same thing.

These occurrences are a by-product of North-American society, there isn't one specific factor or cause to blame.

A highly competitive, capitalist environment creates more extremists and outcasts than say....... a more socialist environment. A few of those outcasts will be affected enough to break down and do something stupid and irrational.

This is just one of those risks you inherently accept by living in the wonderful "Free World". Terrorism is also one of those risks you accept, whether you are aware of it or not.

Now, I like the free world. I am aware of the risks and accept them, because the benifits far outweigh all of those risks. To me this is the same as getting hit by a car or meteorite..... it happens.........

Someone should sue the maker of that game.

They are trying to get some kind of action started against them makers of that game but unfortunately, they are hiding behind laws that protect game producers.

Well stated shifty. Your explanation hits the button IMO. :goodjob:

As a youngster in this generation, I concur that there is not just one factor to blame, but by a contribution of modern society.

There appears to be more and more of these "copy-cat" shooting sprees....
Movies like the Matrix (great movie, by the way) gives these kids the idea that wearing black trenchcoats and sporting a rifle is somehow "cool".

Then you have the Internet which provides a convenient forum for these disturbed individuals to discuss how to kill or how to die.

It was a sad day for Canada....a sad day, indeed.

I don't blame the gun, the game, the apparel, society, or capitalism. I blame 1) the guy who pulled the trigger, and 2) the absent parents who allowed an innocent child to turn into this beast.

WOW! This is some statement:

On what do you base this? Is there some study you have read that backs this up?

Explain the same thing when it happened in Great Britain, then! Or the attacks by Neo-Nazis in Germany, or the attacks in France by the poor students!

This is simply the act of a someone who is detached from society and unable to come to grips with reality.

It may have been prevented by good parenting, school intervention, or a good counselor, psychiatrist, or doctor, but it is most definitely NOT the fault of a free market, capitalist system. Russia doesn't have an open, free market system even now and yet has similar actions happen.

Where do people come up with this liberal pap? I'm sorry, but if you try to make this kind of action the responsibility of a free market society due to societal pressures, countries like Japan and Korean should have much higher rates than the US and Canada.

This was a sick kid who acted out. That's all!

There may have been contributions from some of the sick video games out there, and I believe that those games and similar movies DO affect youth in unpredictable ways, but it still comes down to personal responsibility!
