    Default Surefire M1000

To anyone who has heard about the so called Surefire M1000 incan flashlight model...
Is it just a beautiful but hopeless dream? Wasn't the name "M1000" because it would have been 1,000 lumens? that would be like staring into a nuke!

The M1000 is the M2000's little brother. The M2000 was released as the 10X.
The M1000 was shown by PK at SS2006 Parties

    And here

Of course the M1000 is kinda overshadowed by the "MiniBeast"

I hope not. PK promised me an M1000. It's been in development hell for many, many years. It was one of the reasons I got interested in SureFires in the first place. 12PM too short runtime, 10X too bulky, 9NT not bright enough & too bulky. M1000 perfect light.
Doesn't matter that I no longer have the application I needed it for. It's the principle. I want an M1000.

On your pic it's overshadowed by this terrible shirt .

To the toppic: So it is about 250-300 lumens?

Perhaps PK wore that shirt so that any photos taken then could be sourced back to that night and no other....

Anyway, it uses existing lamps and since it's still proto-type its anybody's guess. One assumes its the MN31 500 lumens but who knows...

is Surefire goona use Li-Ion or better tech for their recahrgables? Seems like the technology is relatively ready for adaptation and NiCads can be safely retired....

I think I want one of those M1000's...any idea how many years it will be before it's on the market?

I doubt SureFire will replace the B90 NiCad, nor the B20 (10X battery/body) unless they change the charging design so the new versions are not interchangeable.

As for the MiniBeast - it has LiIon, as do the Beasts...

    Al,

In your linked photo, the M1000 prototype model appears to have a ring of LEDs centered around the incan lamp in the refelector. Is that what I'm seeing?
Anyone know what's the difference between lithium ion rechargables and NiMH rechargables?
If the M1000 is overshadowed by the mini beast then I hope the minibeast is semi-affordable to middle class folks.

In the photo I linked to (which is not mine, nor hosted on pk-e.com) it does indeed show the M1000 proto-type being a larger version of the A2 (and a smaller version of the BeastII and MiniBeast btw).

A question for the Battery Forum if I ever heard one!

I did not hear that. I want the MiniBeast. Badly.

But your M1000 with the LEDs looks cute, too

There is a type of perfection that transcends the quest for lumens. Buying a $250 1-cell light for "lum factor" is like buying a $250 single malt Scotch for the alcohol content.
