How do you know if it's ok to use lithium AA's or AAA's?

I noticed flashlightreviews said that only alkaline cells were officially recommended for the Inova X1 (although the makers don't say to not use lithium). Has anyone used the X1 with lithium cells? Would that be a problem?

But the larger questions is, how do you know if a particular light can safely use a disposable lithium cell? Is there no issue here, or could it be a problem with some lights?

The short answer is: You don't. In most cases with lights using only 1 or 2 cells, they're not a problem. Because of their ability to deliver more amperage without as much voltage sag, they can cause problems in multi-battery series setups that are at the edge of design for alkalines...like the PT Surge incandescent, for example. Its bulb is being driven hard by 8 alkaline batteries in a series/parallel arrangement, so when lithiums are used, the bulb may go poof.

So might lithiums shorten LED life in single cell lights, even the newer made ones (within last 3 yrs), or is this not something to fret about?
