Re: production video

Thats Mr. Rogers !!! (RIP) :candle:

LOL Surefire,
I got as bout 10 seconds into it, and they started using sheet metal, :huh2:

I have always loved watching any production process.
Theres a show in TV sometimes, think its called "How its Mad"
its really good, shows everything from cereal to engines.

Hey, lets gather up some more links for this thread :D

Re: production video

That brings back memories. It might sound silly, but I really miss Mr. Rogers. Such a different personality in these current times.

Re: production video

Something I've never understood about Mr. Rogers - at the end of each show, he says his goodbyes, walks out the door and leaves you alone in his house!

I think I remember my dad having one of those lights..... The entire body being chromed and ribbed......

I'll have snoop around and see if I can find it !!!

Re: production video

This one's rather enjoyable....trumpet making.

I love the music behind the "field trip" narations on Mr. Roger's show!

Edit: Ok, who linked me to Youtube? You're in big trouble! It's 3 stinking 30 and I can't stop listening to covers of "Say It's Possible" by Terra Naomi. For Pete's sake, I've got to work in the morning!

Highly doubt it's SF. IIRC from their catalog they only made FL's running on 123s...

I always liked those clips also. '

Made In America is also a good source for these types of things.

Dang, that is some pretty labor-intensive manufacturing there. I wonder how many people lost fingers in that factory. I especially like the old lady working with the high-speed hydraulic arbor press that slams the switch rivets in place. *cringe*

Interesting that the cases are extruded instead of rolled and welded. I think that little piece that's whacked out of the end of the tube (where the cells go in) is actually waste.

Interesting to see 70's or so manufacturing technology. Dangerous equipment though...brrr.

ITS MR ROGERS! I LOVED Mr Rogers as a kid, mostly to see these short "magic pictureframe" or whatever it was segments.

Not a lathe or a mill in sight :) I can feel my carpal tunnels swelling up with repetitive stress injuries just watching that :D

That's '30-'40s manufacturing technology. I assume the clip was done in the '80s, but I'm not sure. Someone with a Mr. Rogers episode guide can probably say.

It didn't seem that dangerous to me. Older style gear was much worse. The metal components of cheap flashlights are probably made nearly the same way these days.

The flashlights are swaged I believe, not extruded FWIW.

Ah yes, you are correct. Swaging is when the workpiece is "hammered" to shape and extruding is when it's pressurized through a die isn't it? Ahhhh, Coke to Pepsi my man. ;-)
