I'm building a trilux with fatman driver and UXOJ stars (running at full power) and wondering what will have more runtime. 2xprotected 18650s or 6 nimh 2500 AAs .
thanks,

Hello van1:)

With 2x18650 you get 16,28 wh, with 6x2,5ah nimhs = 18 wh, I use in mine 7 cells with 2,7 ah = 22,68 wh.
So if you use 7x 2,5 ah you get 21 wh. You can also use 8 nimh's, then will the led's driven in DD until the voltage drops below 12 volts.

I hope this helps

Best regards

If you already have the 18650's then that might be the easier and lighter weight way to go for now.
It should not need much more than a plastic tube inside to hold them centered.

Otherwise, 6 2500 nimhs are a more mature technology.
However, this option will be heavier and more tedious to unload and reload in between charges.

Good luck. :)

With the protected 18650's around 1 hour +/- a few mins, the NiMh cells may push it up to 1:10 / 1:20 depending on their condition and what type of cells you use.

Hope this helps :)
