Best rechargeables to go with the E1 + KL4?

Which is the best way to go with this setup? Protected, unprotected, 3.0v, 3.6, 3.7v?

Would anyone please point out me what are the advantages and disavantages on every of these popular li-on batteries? Which will deliver longer runtime? And the flattest regulation? Brightness?

You will have good success with a protected rechargable 4.2v 123. You can get this setup with charger for around $20-$25.
