Surefire CS told me no problem using a KL5 with 3 cells. Their old web sheet of data said 60 minutes with 2 cells, 90 minutes with 3 cells, IIRC.

I did a few runtimes on the L5.
There is no problem running it off 3 Primary 123 cells.
I got about 105 minutes on them.

Since the question has been answered I hope you don't mind my deviation.

Jtice, You note that the 18650, I assume it was one and not two, was at 2.755V when ended. Was it unprotected and if so does that mean it is ruined?

I ask because I am thinking about buying a KL3 or KL5 and possibly using a protected 18650

I used an UN-Protected 18650 cell,
which BTW, is not such a great Idea with the L5, it can take the cell down too low.
Unless you swap out the cell right after you see it dropping out of regulation.
You shouldnt take an unprotected cell down much past 2.8V

I am still using that cell today, seems to be working just fine.
I have another cell that was taken down to 2.2V in another light. (dont try this at home kids!)

Remember, 18650 cells do NOT fit in a stock SF body, mine was bored out to fit them.
