This is my first post, and if I missed this somewhere, I apologize, but I'm totally new to the flashlight world (other than several maglites) and need some help/advice. First of all, is there a post somehwere that breaks down the pros and cons of LED vs Xenon vs whatever else is out there.... from candlepower, to battery life, to bulb life... (I'm sure there are more technical terms for those things) I'm just looking for a good general flashlight, but instead of just asking what to buy, I'd like to become educated somewhat about what I'm buying. :) thanks everyone....

welcome to cpf!

my rule of thumb is LED for runtime, incan for lumen (thats a very SIMPLE way to look at it). in reality runtime and lumen can intertwine.

If you want to read up on some information here's some of my favorite sites:

1.) http://www.flashlightreviews.com/index1.html
You'll probably want to start in the "Features" section.

2.) http://ledmuseum.home.att.net/reserved.htm
This is only about LEDs though

3.)http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/pgrfnbr/525/sesent/00
Careful this link might cause you to empty out your bank account for Surefire lights, hehe.

4.) http://www.streamlight.com/education/glossary.aspx
General info on commonly used terms.

5.) http://www.brightguy.com/brighttopics.php
Some more general info and a great place to buy lights from.

Good Luck!
