I'm thinking of something about the size of a stick of gum running on two AAAs or maybe button cells with a regulator circuit and either a momentary push button or a small slide switch that I can EDC on a keychain. LED would be a Luxeon 1 or 3.

As an experiment, I rigged some CR2016 coin cells to a 2D MagLED module and although it wasn't as bright as 2D cells; it was bright enough for some good use if you don't mind the flood type beam.

My idea sprung up for a Keychain type light.

I do not understand the queston. A number of AAA lights with luxeons are already available off the shelf. Fenix L0P & clones,

Discount code L0PSE10 will get you 10% off until Oct 19. That is L-zero-P.

Peak Baltic & Pacific have both 1AAA & 2AAA versions. Momentary button available.

For even smaller sizes Fenix P1, CR2 Ion & Orb Raw NS though these use funny batteries.

Modders have been using Arc AAA Luxes & Keymate (button cells) as hosts. MillerMods is building & selling multi-stage luxeon lights using Arc AAA & Fenix L0P bodies.

Robocop used a Dorcy AAA & a 3 cell Mag module in the last mod I saw.

I have heard of the Draco running a Luxeon and is meant to be smaller than the Orb Raw Ns but I can't remember where the thread is. Please don't quote me on this.

Get a Peak Matterhorn 3 LED with a cut down body for a 2/3 AAA, and buy a Lithium Ion rechargeable here:

VERY bright, but you can only run it a SHORT time as it gets hot fast at 3.7 Volts!! I have one with a a full AAA. It is for short durations or to impress your friends!!!!!!!!!!!! No momentary though.......................
