Hi guys,

I'm a dog trainer, and I want to start training my fish.

My aquarium is currently lighted by a 250W Metal Halide lamp.

I need to find a flashlight which is powerful enough to light thru the metal halide without blinding the fish.

Would a Walmart flashlight work?

I have seen some at 1 000 000 candlelight, but they seem more like "flood" lights.

I'd like something small though =)

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

onyx ,

Train your fish to do tricks in the daytime

That way you won't need a flashlight ......

and you'll save a lot of money not buying batteries .

The light is not to light up the tank.

It is used as a marker signal.

A light is used to tell the fish what it is that earned him his food.

So you can use basically train your fish to do anything, just like you can train a chicken to dance.

I was just wondering what model would be the brightest? And if the wal-mart flashlights are any good.

Thanks

Everybody things that fish are stupid, but thats not the case!
It took me less than a week of feeding to train them to suck at my fingertips when they want food when i put my hand in the water :)

did you train these?

btw common aquarium fish can be trained.its just a conditioned response.
as a kid i would dampen a finger and dip it into the fishfood canister.
the fish would eat it right off the finger.you could stick a clean finger in the tank and they would nibble at it.they simply associate the finger with food.

How bout a cheap laser pointer?

Fish are trainable guys, I've seen firsthand, an oscar play fetch. The owner would toss a ping pong ball to the end of the tank, then the oscar would "nose" the ball back to him, awesome!

Well my only concern is that the fish would "miss" the marker signal.

Meaning I would flash it, and he wouldn't see it.

Are you looking for a narrow beam that the fish can follow or a wide beam that will light up the whole tank.

Do fish have good eyesight? What about the ability to see differant colored light?

Just a wide beam to light up the fish. But it has to be strong enough that the fish sees it.
