Lights, what the... ...:poof:
I dont remember what dispatch said next.
Dont remember much at all, saw the cam footage and listened to the audio.
When I saw the cam footage from the car I just could not understand how one can live thru that.
I dont remember doing what I did on cam, I jumped in the air, hit the hood and quite like a bug than went splat on your windshield, I took the brunt of his windshield.
Rolled over the top of the car and bounced along for a bit.
Driver kept going.
I think jumping saved me.

I had the strangest dreams while i was knocked out, I awoke about the fifth day and was very confused.
"Deb?"
Stay still Howie, try to rest.
"What in the hell happened?"

Well the rest is history.
Subject was nailed an hour later bragging to his friends about hitting a deer.
When his buddies saw the blood and the torn fabric on the wiper blades, they played it off cool, and called the SD.
He gave up without incident, pretty much confessed to it, he was very very drunk and he claimed my "purdy" lightbar drew him over on the shoulder.
I was standing to the rear and to the left of this cars rear bumper when he hit me.

As for injurys, dont ask it friggin hurts!
The biggest problem is I need back surgery, spinal fusion.
A little memory loss, huh? what? oh! back to the topic.
Washing machines right? lol J/K

I had a small punturce wound in my belly, that sucked.
I have a slight fracture in my neck area, lucky guy on that one.
4 broke ribs two broke fingers and a few other minor fractures.
Did I mention Road rash? Heh, I resemble beef jerky.

I think the funniest thing was when my wifey brought me my Surefire E1 in.
They had me under constant watch which I guess that is because alot of people just dont like me?
And the hospital copper was like Damn bro! That light is slick! He had to Spend some quality time with it, what he did not know is that if was able to I would have been kicking his @ss and getting my light back. My toy!:grin2:

My wife was just amazing during this thing, she's my wifey and my best friend.

Next time you see someone on the shoulder, give em room.

God bless everyone of you.

Howie

So out of curiousity does that mean you can't ever go back to your job?

I'd like to know this as well...I allways get the impression that OC enjoys his work.

Hopefully, he'll be sticking it to the bad guys again sooner or later.

So glad to hear you have pulled through.

I live in California now, but I grew up in Cincinnati.

BTW, is the perp that hit you going to have this nice custom plate from now on?

Thanks guys, typing one handed is hard!
Anyway, I am facing a permanant disability issue.
The chance is good that my work in LE is over. It is something I feel very mixed and bittersweet about, very hard bite to swallow.

I knew when I took this job on it had risks, just like everything we all do.
When I was much younger I raced moutain bikes in NORBA events, I got pretty good at it, moved up to sport class and picked up a few paying sponsors, how I loved to ride and race. but then the real world kicked in and the first of my nine lives was spent as I hit the back of a parked vehicle at over 40MPH, Put me in the hospital for over a week.
That was strike one.
This was strike two.
Regardless of the close calls, I have no regrets as I can look at my walls and see my Jerseys hanging with my number plates signifying a sport I had to leave behind, same goes for LE, I think it is over and it hurts to think that but on the same token I woke up every day and realized that this day might be the last and I accepted that.
As with my racing in my early 20's I guess I will find a spot on the wall for some of my best LE stuff, squad pics, awards etc.
Finance wise it is a disaster to us, but like all things I am sure it will work out.

Glad to see that you're at least feeling well enough to stop by and say Hi to us.

Let us know if we can do anything to help you out.

Very sorry to hear about this happening to you Howie,

Very glad to hear that you survived it and

Very hopeful that your local legal system will mete out a punishment which is vaguely proportionate to the crime (there would be no chance of that here).

Stories like these make it really unwise to start off a conversation with "I was only..." (at least if it's me you're talking to)

Best wishes from across the pond.

Wow!
Hitting a law enforcement officer in a hit and run. :thumbsdow
That's pretty darn :drunk:
.... and foolish on top of that. :scowl:
The guy maybe should have stayed at home on the internet instead.

I worked security for 5 years at posts like;
construction sites, apartment complexes, office buildings, car dealerships and the occasional truck yard.
The very finest coworkers I knew were former law enforcement officers.
These were the people who moved up in the ranks the quickest.

I wish you the best of luck and a bright future sir. :)
