Reading/searching through old posts in this forum I found some posts concerning circuit boards flexing and perhaps failing due to compression when the light is turned on, as a result of the battery being forced into contact with the solder blob on the board. Is this a real world concern, or just a hypothetical design possibility?

Not likely in the ArcAAA, IMO - the circuit is fully potted. What you'll see with time is the solder blob getting a little flattened, but the potted circuit board will withstand a lot of pressure.
