But before you get all worked up it was a prototype cobra head street light. Very interesting products. Luxeon flew down for dinner where I work and demonstrated several products for the VP of Lowe's Hardware. 5watt LED test strip run on four AA batteries was trick. That sucker was extremely bright. The LED applications for the home are getting more and more impressive.

I actually impressed the boys from Luxeon with the fact that I can speak flashlight to some degree. They apparently supply Surefire with some LED's. They don't actually make flashlights for sale but I did hold a 1watt Luxeon flashlight prototype. There were several multi multi LED prototype lights from GE. One off cutting edge stuff and they let me take pictures even.

The best part is one of the guys said he would keep me in mind when they were done with the prototype units. The power supply on them was really trick. They plugged right into a standard outlet. With a little luck I might wind up with a couple of these. Thought I would share with you guys. I don't know how to post pics but I could email them to someone who can. I thought you'd be interested. I'm going back tomorrow to take more pictures before they return to pick them up.

Did the ballast for the luxeon that plugged into the wall look anything like the ones developed back in 2001, with the Philips label on them, aka Xitanium LED Drivers?

Sometimes they are black, and sometimes they are white, see page 4:
http://www.philips.com.my/assets/Downloadablefile//ProductTechnicalSheet-Final(1)-13545.pdf

Some of the newer Xitanium are now produced by Advance, and look like this:

Additional Xitaniums:

http://www.ledcentral.com/DisplayProduct.aspx?id=20&p=0&rid=P&appid=2

An all in one:

One will note, they look absolutely identical to the Philips branded ones:

You do mean Lumileds, don't you?

More than likely, he meant Royal Philips LumiLEDs, which are produced in Malayasia.

Since Royal Philips purchased LumiLEDs, they are starting to drop the mention of LumiLEDs or Luxeon in many of their press releases, an example:
