I received a phone call tonight. It went like this.
Ring
Me: Hello
Lady: Are you Bernie's parents?
Me: No ma'am.
Lady: OK, thank you.

10 minutes later:
Ring
Me: Hello
Lady: I am looking for Bernie's parents.
Me: I don't know Bernie.
Lady: Bernie is here at the house and I can't find his parents.
Me: What is his last name?
Lady: He's a dog.
Me: A dog??????
Lady: Yes, he is here in the house and is asleep and I can't read the phone number on the collar clearly.
Me: I thought you were talking about a boy. I didn't know that a dog could have parents that could answer the phone.
Lady: No, he is a dog. Well thank you very much and I didn't mean to bother you again.
Me: No problem and good luck.

Me: :huh2:

So how many of you call your dog son or daughter and really mean it?? Come on admit it.
I have heard people say things like "Mommy is proud of you" and such to their pets but I have never heard anyone actually call a dogs owners its parents.
I don't know wether to  or :banghead: .

I never thought about it..till now.
Even back when I raised dogs I never called them son or daughter while at the same time I was DAD and my wife was MOM. You got to realize for some folks a pet is a family member and if I got a phone call asking if I was Sheba Fritz Glory's Dad I would had answered "Yes Mam" same for Remo and Lobo
all three white German Shepherds. Had the caller asked if I was "Pippins" Dad I would have answered "No Mam would you like to speak to his Mom" and handed the phone to my wife. Pippin was a black cat long gone but seemed to have more than nine lives. That all changed when we had a child. now we have fish for pets and they do not have names nobody has called to speak to the Dad so I guess they are well behaved when I am not home.

I am deeply attached with my dog to the point he's a member of my family. But I don't refer to myself as his dad. I'm just Tim, and he's Petey. Although if someone did call me Petey's Dad I'd probably think twice then just agree to make it easier.

I am referred to as "Daddy" to 11 dogs by two grown daughters and my wife. Wife is called Grandma! HA! Such as I heard tonight, "Madison, go in and sleep by your Daddy" and Madison is a Dachshund mix.

Boulder, CO and San Francisco, CA are two places that do not have pet owners.
In those two cities you are officially a pet "guardian".
