measuring current

Most multimeters available in the shops can be used as an ammeter to measure current. Connect the ammeter in series with the LED to measure current. Make sure you get one that is capable of measuring high enough values of current. I have quite a cheap one that goes up to 10A.

connect your ammeter probes in series with the load (LED)

Simply interupt the power supply. Connect one ammeter lead to the power supply and the other ammeter lead to the input side of the LED.

This is connecting in SERIES.....The current is flowing from power supply and through the ammeter and into your LED.

The current drawn by the LED will be shown on the ammeter.
